What is energy management?

Energy management is the way an organisation structurally organises itself to govern and improve its energy use. At its core is a cycle you run again and again: set policy, plan actions, carry out measures, check results and adjust on that basis. That is the plan-do-check-act cycle. For this process there is a world standard, ISO 50001, which uses the same structure as other management standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Energy management is therefore about steering, responsibility and repetition. It determines who decides what, which goals apply and how you safeguard them. A fixed part is the management review, in which leadership assesses the results.
