The basic question for any charging plan is not how many charging points you want, but how much room the existing profile leaves.

  • Map the current quarter-hour profile: where are the peaks and how close are they to the contracted capacity?
  • Look at the moments when charging will take place: how much room is there precisely then?
  • Run scenarios on the data: what do ten, twenty or forty charging points do to the profile?
  • Determine what needs to be controlled: static limiting, dynamic distribution or smart scheduling in quiet quarter hours.

Load balancing is not a luxury but a precondition

Virtually every serious charging plaza needs some form of smart charging: distributing the available power across the connected cars, within the limit of what the building leaves over at that moment. The quality of that control stands or falls with up-to-date metering data from the entire grid connection, not just from the charging points themselves.

Well-planned charging can even work the other way round: shifting charging to cheap or sunny hours turns the vehicle fleet into a flexible consumer instead of a problem.
